Talk about it
Read books about starting pre-school and talk about the fun things they will do. Walk or drive past so it feels familiar.
Practise little skills
Putting on a coat, washing hands, opening a lunch box and drinking from an open cup all help your child feel confident.
Short spells apart
Time with grandparents or friends helps your child learn that you always come back.
Settle the routine
Get used to the morning routine and bedtime a week or two before starting.
Label everything
Names in coats, bags, shoes, lunch boxes and spare clothes.
Tell us about your child
Their likes, words they use, comfort objects and anything that worries you. It helps their key person from day one.
